Man, this sounds great! Insta favorite XD
I get happy just listening to this :3
I think you definitely managed to pull this off well. You're right that it's not super loud, but the mix it is clear. It's pretty easy to raise the volume on the listening end anyway :p
Great job ;)

This is sad yet beautiful at the same time. Wonderful job :)

Awesome! I love it :D

DESHIEL responds:

So are you cute pie ;)

Ugh, I've been really lagging behind on reviews lately. I think I'm just going to pull the "I was so late no one will notice I never showed up" card for most of them.

But you have made three awesome pieces that are not yet reviewed by me, so I'll write some short things here.
Your latest three tracks have the honor of having been part of my hangover recovery this morning :p

Essentially, I just listened to like 20+ relatively recent Newgrounds tracks while lying in my bed. It was a good recovery :3
Of course, I heard all the tracks when they came out, but didn't review them at the time for whatever reason :p

Right, to the track:

We all know it. I love them music boxes, and other bright stuff like the celesta, glocks etc. (lest forget the piano). And the other eery stuff is neat too! Especially the theremin sounding thing is awesome beyond my comprehension XD

The melodies and chords you picked are wonderful, and creepy. If I had to complain about anything, I guess the sfx at around 1:15 were a bit loud imo, but it doesn't distract too much from the piece.

I hope to hear more stuff like this in the future, as it's really in my style, so to say :D

Have a good day :)

ChronoNomad responds:

Well, there has been an awful lot going on of late, and I know that you're already quite busy even without anything else getting added to your plate. This past week has been rather long and unexpectedly Sisyphusian, so I can fully understand. No apologies necessary. :)

That said, it's a pleasure to receive another update-slash-review from you, my friend! I am honoured to have been a part of your hangover cure regimen. Much better than the offer of a greasy pork sandwich served up in a dirty ashtray, that's for sure! (obscure references ftw) Suffice to say, I am happy to hear that you're feeling somewhat less hungover. Newgrounds was originally developed specifically for that purpose, but hardly anyone remembers because they were all completely sloshed at the time.

Music boxes, man. Dem music boxes are da bes! And they can work so very well when crafting a spooky ambient track like this. I really don't make stuff like this as often as I could (or should), but it's always hellaciously fun. That other instrument, the one that sounds a bit like a theremin, is actually the Angelic Whistle instrument in the Sytrus library, though at a rather low octave. I'm quite a fan of this particular sound, and it also features quite predominantly in the first track I released this year, 'Wind Requiem - Chill Mix.' Come to think of it, I got a very nice review from you on that track, as well! ^__^

Yeah, some of the effects get kinda loud, I will grant you that. I was actually hoping to have a wider variety of SFX, but whenever I tried to add other types to the mix it would thoroughly misbehave. I'm pretty sure the whole thing was quite haunted by a mischievous little poltergeist...

Incidentally, I hope that you very much enjoyed your Friday the 13th! It rather sounds like you did if that hangover was any kind of indication. It was quite dark and stormy hereabouts, so that was appropriate.

I'm not sure just how often I'll be making stuff like this, but I do think you'll like what I'm working on now. It does sort of fall into a similar category, perhaps.

Thank you again for yet another fantastic review, Lucid! I always appreciate it. May you also have an excellent day. :D

This is another one of the pieces I just kinda found myself listening to while recovering from a hangover today. It did me some good for sure. Thanks! :D

NicholasCabraja responds:

Lol glad it got you through your (probably) forgetful night!

Thank you for checking it out! I'll be sure to repay the favour when I get the chance!

This is really nice, ya know.

So during the morning today, I was still drunk/hung over from yesterdays partying. During the morning, I listened to this like 5 times in a row (along with a lot of other NG stuff) as part of my sad recovery. This track gets a really different atmosphere to it if you imagine yourself being semi drunk, feeling like vomiting, and kinda having it play as a background piece to contrast your thoughts and misery (it wasn't that bad; I've been way worse).

I really like the rhythm, intrumentation, melodies and harmonies. I think you pulled of the jazziness quite well. I go to jazz bars from time to time, and I'd say you caught the mood and the feel of such a place for sure. I'd like to hear more like this from you!

(Also, is this one of those times a year that everyone is too lazy to go review stuff? I know I've been busy too, but I am lagging behind on sooo much :p)

P.S. Turns out, I went to another bar as well today with some friends, without having fully recovered yet. Yay for Finland... XD

TaintedLogic responds:

Awww...thank you so much for all the positive feedback, LSD! :D I want to do more tracks like this too, but at the same time I pride myself on wildly flitting between genres like a maniac. ^^ Glad to know you're having fun with all your alcohol-related endeavors, meanwhile I cannot legally drink alcohol in my home country for another 2.5 years. :O I too have fallen way behind in my reviews. Sorry about that! I'll definitely find some time by next weekend, if not this one. Thanks again! Also, I forgot to respond to your email. I'll fix that ASAP!

It's no secret that I love well made short loops. Great job :D

Neon-Bard responds:

Thanks for listening LSD! Glad you like it. :)

Awesome work man! Nice blend between Goofy and Yoda o.O

JayWEccent responds:

Thank you very much. That means a lot :)

Oh yeah! I remember hearing this with the video on youtube. It still sounds as amazing :D
The video of course, is wonderful too :p
Great job with everything in this competition :)

SoundChris responds:

Thanks man! Yeah i published that track a long time on youtube butthe authors didnt allow me to publish my track / video there (which is totally ridiculous ... that has been allowed in all the years before, too.... it is a huge filmscoring event and a very known competition. The track with the video is availiable via stream on the broadcaster´s web-page. So i dont really understand their point. But ok ... if they want it that way ... so be it :D

Glad you liked it and all the best wishes
Chris

He is back, and with another great track!
And what more, it's a horror track >:D

I'm sure you already know this, but I have an insanely huge bias against pieces like these. So yeah, obviously I like it quite a bit XD A melody is not always what is the most important. I think you handeled the effects and mixing just fine, and you succeeded in making the composition amtospheric. This does indeed remind me of the soundtracks from the Alien movies.

Good job! It's great to see something new from you after a break :3
Now, time to watch that trailer...

Phonometrologist responds:

Well that was fast. While listening to Allhelgona I thought it best to join the festivities. Its good to be back... Now I have to catch up on what I've been missing.

I exist. That'd pretty much be it. Pictures made on Paint.NET (getpaint.net) and Apophysis 7X.
