Now this, THIS is amazing. It sounds very Zen-ish, especially in the beginning. You've got good reason to be happy with the mix. I can't find a single thing I'd change.
As usually, I love the instruments used. The percussion too is great throughout the piece.

At first I thought this was going to stay as a relaxing track, but oh man was I wrong! It's not only the instruments that are awesome, but the entire structure and composition of this song are incredible o.O

That climax is astonishingly good, really O: !!
All the way from the buildup that starts at 2:34 I was listening intently, just living into the music, and didn't relax again until 3:51.

I don't really have anything to complain about. Easy favorite. Now I'm beginning to feel like I'll never be able to make music this good. Half as good as this would already be enough :p
I hope you're proud, because you should be ;)

Mattashi responds:

Thank you so much Lucid :3
And what are you talking about you already make awesome music as good as it gets! I could never write an amazing solo piano piece like you do :)

That deep bass o.O (0:09)!

Anyhow. This is simple and nice :p
It sounds a lot like like your style. It's easy to notice that it was done pretty quickly though. That said, you still did a pretty solid job.

I think it was a good choice not to loop this one :)

=> done pretty quickly =>

:D Yup. I left quite a few mistakes in, mostly regarding the guitar chords. I did fix up a lot of mistakes in the e-piano, though.

=> not to loop =>

It ain't loop week no more! :P

Thanks for the review! You know you're not obligated to review every single one of these, right? :D

Hahha, I don't think this was that uplifting either XD
That said, it's a really nice song!

Your samples are not the best. but I usually overlook that, as the music itself is more important to me.

What bothers me a bit though is that the first string that enters in the beginning seems to be panned a bit too much to the left.
Another thing is that that heavy drum that enters at 1:34 (along with the guitar) is a bit too overtaking; it overrides a few of the other instruments. It gets a bit better at 2:04 though.

I Love how the end of the piece is a breakdown that goes perfectly along with the beginning.

Solid job here, DwightFalcon ;)

DwightFalcon responds:

Hi LucidShadowDreamer,

First and foremost, thanks for the comment.
Yeap, I agreed about the panning issue of the violin. When I first recorded my friend's violin playing, I didnt realise that he is standing facing the left of my microphone.(Just check the check with my friend and he agrees with that). And of course, mixing the original sample with a digitally produced violin solo is quite a struggle which I hope to solve it in the future.
And about the drum and guitar part, I actually struggle to mix them and eventually gave up and used some basic automation to match the track.
Thanks a lot for pointing out my mistake and feel free to point out more since I am on the path learning it. :)

Regards,
DwightFalcon

Lol, I've totally forgot to review your latest tracks even if I've listened to them all, sorry for that XD
Either way, I came back to say that this track is amazing!

It's kinda simple in some ways, but it has everything that needs to be in it. I love the blend between christmassy and detective-like music o.O
The beat is perfect, and all the instruments fit surprisingly well together; the bells/glock and xylophone with the percussion; the organ sound along with the brass and electric guitar. The bass, although simple suits this piece nicely.
The sfx sounds are nice, and the loop is perfect.

Awesome chord progression and melodies too, definitely worth a favorite ;)

I had a blast listening to this music while I played through the game. Astounding job on this one (as with all your other songs)! :3

Mattashi responds:

Thank you so much Lucid :D

Hahha :D Nice loop, albeit short ;)

I like the style of this one. It's very mysterious, and full of interesting intruments.
The melodies are interesting. Even the usually happy chords sound a bit eerie (like at 0:48).
I love the mood that's set by the strings.

Getting out of your comfort zone is a very good thing to do, and you get interesting results. That's really awesome.

The loop is almost flawless as well. Only thing that makes you notice is a weird, kind of... Dull? Sound, like a very filtered cymbal or something :/

Great job ;)

LunacyEcho responds:

I thought you'd like this one. ;)

=> usually happy chords =>

It's probably the instrumentation. I went from B minor to D major, and I'm not sure what the music theoretical implications of that are, but from my standpoint, it didn't sound like D major normally does.

=> mood =>

The mood was a pretty strong aspect of this piece in my opinion as well. :D

=> loop =>

Secretly, I sidechain all of my intros. Just the intros.

Nah, it was probably because I didn't take you excellent looping advice. I didn't do the Audacity thing you do, which is why there's a little bit of nothing in the beginning.

Thanks for the review!

Yet another 5 stars worthy piece. I was actually inpired by this track (and thus, indirectly by Chopin's piece) to start composing a new piece on the piano. Hopefully, I'll finish it and submit it in the coming weeks or so :p

Phonometrologist responds:

very cool! I'm looking forward to hearing it. Don't keep me in suspense too long. If it can inspire, my work is done.

One piece a day? o.O!!!
That sounds awesome! :D

This succeeds in sounding like an old rap beat. All that is missing is the rap D:
I like the fact that it loops too :3
Nice job, and good luck with this project ;)

LunacyEcho responds:

=> all that is missing =>

I'm not planning in showing my voice on Newgrounds anytime soon. At least, not recognizably.

Thanks for the quick review! :P

Oh God... Now you're making me scared that my laptop will just randomly give up on me for no apparet reason o.O
It's really as if everyone in my country got the cold right in time for Christmas :p
Literally half of the people you meet, if not more, are sick, to some extent.
I'm sure wandschrank will understant though.

Umm... I'm not much of a good reviewer today so...

Awesome sung bruh ;)

Only thing wrong with it is that the end doesn't seem to be rendered properly, but cut off, which LunyEchuny already mentioned :p
(Classic Johnfn).

johnfn responds:

I think I gave the sickness to my computer :D D:

Thanks for the review! CUTOFF ENDINGS FOREVE

Whaa??? No one is reviewing anything these days (because it's busy times), including me o.O

Your piano in this piece sounds really refreshing and nice, as do the strings. The nod at Pachelbel's Canon is quite obvious both in the intro and outro, but it's still a nice touch.

The melodies, chords, transitions and instruments (+percussion) are really good in this track. Well done on every front, really. It's a great piece, which is why I favorited it ;)
All the small touches too, like that... Arpeggio-ish thingy between 1:51-1:52 are cool too.

Sounds johnfn:y, actually :)

I don't have much to say really. I'm not good at reviewing today XD

Either way, great job ;)

P.S. Now, what could this piece possibly have in common with Greek and Roman mythology

LunacyEcho responds:

=> no one reviewing anything =>

People get lazy as the year progresses, I guess. Then, in January, it all resets with New Year's Resolutions, but December's the time when people have finally broken all the good habits they proposed at the beginning of the year.

=> piano =>

Really? I thought you'd be annoyed by how inhuman in sounded. :P I guess it's harder to tell when the notes are spaced farther apart.

=> every front =>

You sure about that? There are a few melodies here that I feel are a bit weak. I'm pretty proud of the chords, though; I think I'm getting better at composition in that respect.

=> sounds johnfn-y =>

=> Greek/Roman =>

Well, it doesn't. But Christmas does! I read an interesting thing a while ago that said that the reason we celebrate Christmas on Dec 25 isn't because it was Jesus' birthday (which was never actually mentioned in the Bible). It was the birthday of Mithras, the holy figure of a pre-Christianity mystery religion. I looked up some more mystery religions and found out that some worshipped subjects included Orpheus, Eleusis, and Dionysus as well. much interest indeed

Thanks for reviewing! Happy holidays! :)

I exist. That'd pretty much be it. Pictures made on Paint.NET (getpaint.net) and Apophysis 7X.
